Automation Today - 1-2007
Welcome to this edition of Automation Today
Information...
...helps to set targets
Automation is the critical determinate in both the performance of production processes and people in any manufacturing facility. This message was delivered loud and clear by industry experts from around the world at our Automation Fair in Baltimore recently and it is echoed by many of the engineers attending our Automation University events in the region.
When so many industry figures gather in one place, it is amazing to observe how focussed and united manufacturers are about the challenges they face. We hear that the industry is being driven by the need for manufacturers to integrate tightly with suppliers and to respond quickly to increasingly complex and volatile demand patterns from customers. As a conclusion, there are four strong productivity drivers in the industry today:
- Lower total cost of ownership
- Better asset optimisation
- Faster time to market for new or modified products
- Reducing the manufacturing business risk
