Research reveals the pressure on beverage manufacturers
New research has revealed that business pressures are putting the squeeze on beverage manufacturers across Europe and Africa.

Undertaken by Market Clarity on behalf of Rockwell Automation, across 15 countries in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and Africa, the research targeted beverage manufacturing production managers at the major soft drink, brewing and distilling companies.

Results showed that 97% of production managers identified “Cost” as the primary internal business pressure to respond to, followed by “Improved Performance” at 87% and “Quality” at 83%. As a result, one of the key areas for production plant improvement in the coming year will be upgrading or improving manufacturing production equipment. Critical activities within the plant were also identified as improved production information and analysis (83%) and improved production execution and control (77%).

Mike Jamieson, Beverage Industry Solutions Director for Rockwell Automation, explains: “We commissioned this research to understand the specific pressures beverage plant and production managers in Europe and Africa were facing today. Customers continue to demand an ever increasing variety of product lines, sizes and packaging from their suppliers at the very best market prices while manufacturing bosses look to cut costs, deliver global quality standards and improve production performance. As automation specialists, Rockwell Automation has a responsibility to ensure beverage manufacturers’ needs are met in a more holistic way.”

As part of this initiative, Rockwell Automation has announced its intention to create
a European Beverage Manufacturing Forum for Plant Managers to address the issues identified by the research and to explore ways in which plant managers and service providers can work more closely together. The first forum will take place in the New Year. A full executive summary of the Beverage Manufacturing Plant Production Manager research can be found at: www.rockwellautomation.com/ beverage.

Tire Technology Exhibition
After last year’s success we will once again be exhibiting at the Tire Technology Expo, taking place on the 13-15 March 2007 in Köln, Germany. The event will be used to showcase our capabilities in this extremely demanding field.

To hear about the latest automotive solutions, you are welcome to visit Rockwell Automation at Stand 2118, Hall 2.1.

At the show we will highlight our key solutions for the automotive industry, specifically what we can offer the tire industry. Our experience of both of these markets puts us in a unique position to understand the pressures and constraints that suppliers and manufacturers face. With numerous class-leading installations around the world we are in a fantastic position to be able to offer solutions to some of the industry’s most complex automation challenges.

The manufacturing event of the year
This year, Automation University, the manufacturing events of the year will be better than ever. The depth and range of what is on offer will make it unmissable and what’s more, attendance is free.

Sessions are designed to inform and educate attendees about the latest products and technology from Rockwell Automation and our partners. The event will also offer visitors an extensive programme of seminars, demo-sessions and hands-on workshops. These will elaborate on some of the key issues facing manufacturing industries and demonstrate how we can help address them by integrating automation and information solutions through our Integrated Architecture.

Automation University is a unique event aimed at educating engineers across Europe on the latest technologies on offer.

This year, two new features are being introduced: a chance to have one-on-ones with experts who will offer both technology and industry expertise; and, to cater for the next generation of engineers, a student day is taking place. This will give those just starting out in engineering a chance to see real-life applications and how modern industry can evolve to adapt to modern needs.
The programme of events will take place across multiple sessions on each of the two days, with several seminars taking up double slots. Many will act as introductory programmes to a variety of technologies and services from Rockwell Automation and, as well as the technology-centric presentation, there will also be others geared towards vertical markets such as automotive, food and beverage.
Feedback from previous shows has highlighted the value that visitors attach to this event; with many decided that this was too good an opportunity to miss. Post-show research indicated that, over 90% of visitors rated the courses as either very good or excellent and nearly half of all attendees rated the overall event as excellent. From another angle more than three quarters of the attendees told us that the networking opportunities at the event were excellent.
